Copper River Delta Brown Bear Learning To Fish

As we drove out to Child's Glacier last July, a car was stopped on bridge.  We stopped to see what they were looking at.  A young brown bear was in the creek trying to catch fish.  The half hour we were there he didn't have much luck.  But then the glacial silt made it hard to see what was in the water.

But it was a beautiful spot and a magnificent young animal.

  1. Just beautiful. The one thing of value Sarah Palin brought to me is my growing knowledge of Alaska through the blogs, articles, essays written about Alaska since mid-2008. Knowing your huge gorgeous state was "up there" from lower 48 is very different from reading of the love of Alaska's residents for their state and its beauty and seeing the pictures posted.

Alas, the cold and snow of your long winters and very cool summers (with exceptions) always have prevented me from spending time in Alaska - my loss. Thanks for the posting.

  2. PatG - You articulated something I vaguely understood, but hadn't verbalized - how Alaska blogs can let people from Outside 'visit' Alaska. As much as I'd love for you to come see this in person, I am glad that people's image of Alaska cold keeps most people from moving here. :)
