September 16 marked the day that studded tires are again legal. The Department of Transportation website gives details:
It is unlawful to operate a motor vehicle with studded tires on a paved highway or road from May 1st through September 15th, inclusive, north of 60 North Latitude and from April 15th through September 30th, inclusive, south of 60 North a motor vehicle with studded tires from May 1st through September 15th, inclusive. The leaves are changing colors and some are already on the ground.
We've had termination dust on the mountains behind Mendenhall Glacier for 2 weeks, and the leaves here in Your Fair Capital City were blowing everywhere during yesterday's 60 knot winds. The morning chill is almost at the fleece-wearing phase.
