Federal Prisoners Get Email

It wasn't too long ago - April or May this year - that (at least some) federal prisoners got the use of email. You could email them from your own email account to a prison email address. Early September, people corresponding with prisoners were told that a new system would be in place.

Corrlinks arrived this past week. I'm sure it gives the prisons much more control over incoming and outgoing email. But for someone outside it means another email to check to see if her prisoner friend sent something. Now the person has to check Corrlinks.

This is much faster than snail mail, and it also means that the prisons can scan for whatever words they think they should check on. Probably it will help them find code words if they show up more often than they should in normal conversation. Or maybe I'm giving them too much credit.

Here's a link to the Corrlinks FAQs.

  2. Anonymous, I had trouble in the beginning too.

At the bottom of the page there is a link to customer support. You can click there (or right above here).

Then there is a window. Pick "I can't log in" and then it will give you a another place to put your email. Then hit GO. They should send you an email.

    Good luck!

  4. Anon 8/3 - I'm not completely sure, but go to Account Management at main menu.
Then to Manage My Inmate List.

To the far right on the line with your inmate's name, on mine it says block. I assume if it were blocked, it would say unblock.

Anon 8/10 - I don't know who does and doesn't. Email the prison and ask. Or check their website. Or Google "Colorado Federal Prison email"

    Good luck.

  8. Anon July 31 - I haven't had to use corlinks for a while now. Have you just signed up? Perhaps it still checking you out and sending up the account. In any case, here's the link in the FAQs to contact them:https://www.corrlinks.com/FAQ.aspx#Answer11

    1. I don't know the answer. You could check with his family or others who are in contact with him to make sure he's ok. I posted this seven years ago and the inmate I was in contact has been out a while so I haven't kept up to date. Good luck to you on this and to your friend.

    1. Unknown, wish I could help. This post is from 2010 and the prisoner I was in contact with is long out of prison. Don't really know how the system works any more. Poke around, use any contact links. Maybe someone else will comment, but it is an old post. Good luck.
