The Festival is over - officially.  But I still have posts to add here as I catch up on my thoughts about what I saw, with pictures and videos, etc.  I'll try to do a comparison to the official winners and how I saw things, though I think we're pretty much in sync this year.

Monday, Dec. 11 - Saving Brinton Look At A Few Of Those Old Movies With John Zahs - Some discussion on documentaries in general and then about ten minutes of vintage old movies narrated by Mike Zahs who discovered and restored them.  

Sunday, Dec. 10 - The Award Ceremony - Winners - I updated this one five or six times as winners of different categories were named.  I'll try to add some photos of some of the winners.  I think I've got all the winners.  The lists are the films in competition I was given before the festival.

Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017 -  Caught By Surprise By Wonderful Film - Arctic Daughter - This world premiere turned out to be a powerful story about a woman in the wilderness, but also about life, nature, and people's relationship to nature.

    Wed, Dec 6, 2017 -  I  Just Need To Tell Everyone How Amazing "The Drawer Boy" Was - This film pulled me out of my seat into the scene itself.  Fantastic.  With video of director Aviva Armour-Ostroff at post film Q&A.

    Tues, Dec 5, 2017 - My Guide To Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017.  My thoughts on today's offerings including a 2012 Skype interview I did with Dan Mirvish, who has a workshop today at 5:30 pm.  


    Mon, Dec 4, 2017:  Short Docs 2 - Yasmin Mistry (Family Rewritten)  and Ida Theresa Miklebost (Unwelcome). - short clips of the two film makers I got Dec 3 t at the Bear Tooth after American Folk played.  Their films show at 3pm Dec 4 at AK Exp Theater as part of Short Docs 2 - Against the Grain  


    Dec 4, 2017:  Shawn Convey Talks About His Film 'Among Wolves' - part of an audio conversation we had Friday, where he talks about finding the Bosnian vets who protect a herd of wild horses, among other things  

    Dec 2, 2017:  Opening Night Shorts - includes video of Jeannie Donahoe (Game) and Semara Lerman (Iron) at the Q&A talking about their films.

    Nov. 29, 2017:  AIFF 2017: A Film About Dying Traditions In Italy - Vanina Lappa's Over The River (Sopra il Fiume) - This film shows Sunday (and the next Sunday) and Anchorage will be the North American premiere.  Unfortunately, Vanina Lappa, the director and most everything else on the film,  can't come.  But this post has video of our Skype conversation last week and information about the community that plays such a big role in the film.

    Dec 2, 2017:  Homework Assignment for watching "Pale Blue Dot" ('Sarvanaam' in Marathi) SUNDAY Sunday - This Feature in Competition has its outside of India premiere.  I've chatted with the director Girish Mohite via FB and this post includes info on the legend that underlies the film.
