Alaska COVID-19 Count Friday May 1, 2020 - NINE New Cases

We were down to zero new cases yesterday and now we're back up to 9 new cases.  I went for a bike ride yesterday and saw maybe 25 or 30 people on the trail, walking or biking.  Besides me, I saw three or four others wearing masks.  When you're on the bike trail, if you pass someone and you're both on the very edge of the trail, there's probably 6 feet space.  But not everyone stays on the edge.

People really just don't get it.  And so many more will get it.

State Charts

xxx

Six in Anchorage, one in Fairbanks, two in Kenai.  You can get that information in the lower left colorful graph in the State chart, lower left, above.  But you need to  go to the State site  to get the interactive abilities to tease out those details.  The chart here will enlarge and focus if you click on it, and you'll be able to read the cumulative total tests for yesterday (20,325).  But again, you need the interactive to see the totals for the previous days.  But 20,325 is nearly 2.8% of the Alaska population.  For the US total, there were 5.6 million people tested the other day out of 331 million or 1.7% of the US population tested.

I've been making these screen shots high resolution so you can click on them to enlarge and focus.  But if you want to use the chart interactively, go to the State site to play with the original and other charts they have.

Alaska COVID-19 Count Thursday April 30, 2020 - NO New Cases

It's the last day of April.  Our second ZERO in less than a week.  That's great news.

To get a a visual sense of how we have gone over the peak and are currently headed downward, here's graph that the State has on its site.  It's much easier to read and interactive there.

New cases peaked at the end of March, beginning of April. The last death was reported April 12.   Orange represents active cases.  Blue is recoveries.  Red is deaths.  I suspect RED would be visually more consistent if it were placed between the Orange and Blue, because it would show Red declining (there have been no new deaths in 17 days.)  Here, the line keeps going higher which visually competes with the message conveyed by the Red line staying the same height.

With the State opening up more businesses and people able to get to gather in groups of ten or twenty, I'm expecting  the trend in new cases to start going up again sometime next week after the incubation time is long enough for people to get sick.  I hope I'm wrong.
