I see a lot more people riding their bikes this winter and I like to point that out whenever I can in hopes that others might realize that bike commuting is doable, even in the winter. It helps if the distance isn't too far as is the case of this biker I saw when I was clearing the snow from the driveway on Tuesday.

Well, I find biking dangerous in such weather conditions. The surface is quite slippery.
ReplyDeleteWith all the new mountain bikes and mountain bike tires, it's not nearly as dangerous as we think. Check out the links to Alaska Blogs for Bicycles and Icicles and Bicycle Commuters of Anchorage. There's a whole new world of bikes that can ride in snow conditions. (But I don't think riding in traffic is a good idea, you need separate bike paths or sidewalks.)
ReplyDeleteThis guy inspired me to pull out the bike today when I went over to a meeting at the university and we had several inches of fresh snow. It was fantastic.
