Falling

Even though winter made a brief visit last week - checking out his winter home I guess - it is still just fall.  And after doing some chores and errands, I got on the bike for a few more kilometers.  For now my goal is 800 for the summer.  And it was sunny and beautiful.  Below is the south fork of Campbell Creek from Campbell Airstrip Road.

A quick view of the mountains as the bike trail comes out of the woods and goes along the road.

Campbell Creek, closer to Lake Otis.

Looking up at the Mt. Ash Tree

That's all.  Just lots of trees.

  1. Does Campbell Creek get tested for jet fuel contaminants? Does anyone know?

    1. They monitor a lot of the water for fecal matter. Don't think jet fuel is tested. here's an article on some testing

    2. Thanks for that link, Steve. Very interesting article and I can feel for the people drinking contaminated water. In iowa every major drainage system is littered with large cafos (confined animal feeding operations) and massive acres of chemical soused farmland draining into waterways and rivers and heading downstream. Virtually all iowa's waterways are dirty and I suspect plenty of aquifers are as well.

    3. That sounds horrible. There may be some places like that in Alaska - mines, oil drilling - but mostly streams are reasonably clean.

    4. If you are interested, this URL will show you an interactive map of iowa and the concentrated cafo concentrations across the state (up to 2020) I live in Obrien County, second from top left and second county down. This is frightening and imagine the fresh water used and tons of waste created every single day.
