Jerusalema - Take A Happy Break

The LA Times has a story today:

"Singer Zikode said she is thrilled to see so many people around the world dancing to the song.

“When I saw the president [Cyril Ramaphosa] announcing that everyone should celebrate today’s Heritage Day by dancing to ‘Jerusalema,’ I quickly jumped up, raised my hands and shouted!” Zikode said in Zulu.

“I was so happy,” she said. 'God has lifted me up because of the success of this song, and everyone is dancing to my voice.'”

Just take a break and enjoy the music and enthusiasm.  Better yet, get up and join.

Below is a video with the composer talking about how amazed he is that this song has taken off like this.

  1. Nah, not my kind of happy, really. But I loved when Gene and I visited South Africa in 2006, driving happily in the veldt, tuning into local language radio stations and really enjoying it all. THAT brings good feelings. This, not so much.

But then, I'm in sentimental agreement with the much formerly-loved creator of Lake Wobegon in which he framed his regard for moving bodies: 'Dance? Not really for it nor against it'.

Anyway, what more would you expect from a boy whose Swedish grandmother was a pietistic Lutheran and her brother a happy fiddler at Swedish folk-dances?
