Alaska COVID-19 Count Thursday May 28, 2020 - 13 New Cases!!

THIRTEEN NEW CASES!  That's the highest number, by far, since April 12 when we had 15 new cases.  The highest we had before that was 9 new cases.  But mostly under 5. Since May 1 they've all been under 5.  So this is significant.

This could be a one day anomaly, or it could be the result of opening back up, or it could be the influx of people coming to Alaska for the commercial fishing season.  It's not good.  The State chart shows four were from Anchorage, seven from Kenai, one each from Juneau and the North Slope Borough.

ProPublica has a page with what might be called a report card for each state.  They say only 11 states get a green light on all five categories.  I thought Alaska would be one, but it's not.  The first two categories show a weakness in these metrics.  Alaska numbers haven't had a steady decline in the last week, but that's because the numbers are so low.  We've had been 0 and 4 new cases a day - mostly ones and twos.  If you have one's for five days, even zeros, and then go up to two, you'd have an increase and not get a green check mark (if I understand this right.)  Also, the percentage of positive tests is way below their 30% benchmark, but it's not going down.  Again because the numbers are so low.  The last category is one that I haven't seen before.  I'll have to look at the State's charts again to see if it's there.  Despite not getting all green checks, Alaska is doing well, though I'd like to know more about the last category.  You can see all the states at the Propublica link.  (I'd note that this chart was before today's numbers.)

Thanks KS for the tip.
