Alaska COVID-19 Count April 9, 2020 - 9 New Cases, No New Deaths Or Hospitalizations

I've made an important new discovery today on the State charts.  I've been tracking these here because the State was replacing the previous day's charts with the new chart, so there was no way to go back and see the previous data.

BUT I WAS WRONG.  The new interactive charts that began April 2, 2020 have a row on the top that lets you go back and look at earlier dates.  I've gone through my screenshots and in some cases I had that row and in other cases I didn't.  Because of the scrolling nature of the charts, it's easy to scroll to a point where the option to pick other dates is hidden.

But I want people to know THAT YOU CAN LOOK AT CHARTS FROM PREVIOUS DATES now.  As I played with it, it goes back to April 1, 2020.  It's at the top of the page.  This isn't too clear here, but it should help you find it in the interactive chart on the state site and further down in this post.  You can pick various different options besides statewide.

It's great to discover this option.  But I think my charts - the calendar one below and the day-by-day chart at the bottom are still useful ways to see the progression of COVID-19 in Alaska over time.  And, from what I can tell, the bar above only goes back to April 1, 2020.

Today, I've made sure I had the bar on top where you can choose to see different days in the screenshot below.  You can click on it to enlarge and focus, but it's not interactive.   Click on the image to enlarge and focus.

The chart below is interactive - from the State site - and you can use the bar on top to look at the data from past dates (to April 1).  The chart scrolls to the right.  To see the rest of this post, you have to scroll back to the left.

Cases depicted above represent permanent residency of the infected person, and may not reflect where the person is located currently, or was located when exposed or diagnosed.

It seems we keep adding cases daily, but not in ever increasing numbers.  The peak was 22 on April 7, but it was back down to 13 on the 8th, and 9 today.  The number of recovered cases jumped today to 17 from 32 yesterday to 49 today.  Isolation seems to work.  Our death rate is not increasing by much.  Most days have been zero.  The highest jump was 2 on only one occasion.  Two of the seven Alaskan deaths were residents who contracted the virus and died Outside (of Alaska.)   I have my fingers crossed.  (I realized, as I wrote it, that crossing fingers is part of the legacy of superstition that we still practice, even if only metaphorically to mean "I hope.")
