Once freed of the weight of grand design, these cultural totems are revelatory in so many ways, but not as religion -- that wrong-spirited transgression of law upon the ineffable.

To come to this reasoning doesn't necessitate rejection of faith, however. Some have crossed the line from religious atheist (the favoured noun here in the UK is non-theist) and moved to anti-theist -- that 'militant' stripe you lay claim to.

I'm reminded that back in the day, a member of Anchorage's public, commenting on a public forum I had spoken at in defence of this silly notion of LGBT equality, referred to me as 'one of those military gays'.

And we quibble about words and meanings. Our real enemy is ignorance.Jacob Dugan-Brausehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06287631724339961459noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30897652.post-1275250736648338852013-11-27T05:45:43.326-09:002013-11-27T05:45:43.326-09:00I've been boring people for years with my, &qu...I've been boring people for years with my, "Atheism is the New Gay". This American un-constitutional (!) non-separation of church+state is a HUGE curse and stumbling block to a rational, progressive, caring nation moving forward. The more sittng politicians that come out the better, even better, VOTE them IN.
Count me as a "militant atheist" who would deeply resent laws made by Christianists (as reactionary in their thinking as any Taliban) if I still lived in America. This "coming out" is the best thing to happen in American since Martin Luther King galvanized the blacks and scared the bezeesus out of whites. What prominent atheist will be shot first?

Barbara Carlsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05463074148195784152noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30897652.post-2210900992656408612013-11-26T21:22:48.308-09:002013-11-26T21:22:48.308-09:00Good point. As Steve said, more respect is coming to the religious people than is coming from them.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30897652.post-10134021722066503372013-11-26T11:14:52.887-09:002013-11-26T11:14:52.887-09:00In the UK, it's more common to find people bei...In the UK, it's more common to find people being a bit concerned by someone's profession of faith in a god, than not having such belief. I have had to come to the defence of friends who are believers, in larger circles of non-theists. I wish people could just remember what it is like to be in the minority, regardless. Sigh.Jacob Dugan-Brausehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06287631724339961459noreply@blogger.com
