Chimp On Smart Phone

I've been amazed at how quickly young - under 5 for example - kids learn how to use an iPod or iPhone.

But this chimp's use is eerie.  I don't know what it means, but it's worth thinking about.    Just because primates can use a technology doesn't mean they understand what they're doing.  They could probably be taught to use a voting machine too.

I don't often put up other people's videos, but this one is challenging what I think I know.

  1. Hi Steve,
This video is really worth thinking about.
I still remembered when I was in Renda, I called you once, and you said that you don't like to carry a phone with you. I also remember that when I saw you this February, you mentioned about the smartphone you just owned. I feel that you have been doing very well in avoiding the serious impact of phone on your life.
But nowadays, smartphones are almost an indispensable part of people's daily lives. Young people have become accustomed to taking a look at mobile phones every once in a while. "Mobile phone syndrome" has become the norm for many people. Naturally, children are inevitably affected by the mobile phone daily. Nowadays, in classrooms, many students just sit there and indulge in browsing smartphones. They don’t listen to teacher at all, let alone participate in classroom talking. This poses a great challenge to the teaching.
I feel that the whole society really needs to think about how we educate children in the future, and how to deal with the relationship between people and technology.

    Ben
